Be Brave: Why Stepping Out Into Something New Could Change Everything

We all know the feeling—that mix of excitement and fear when you consider stepping into something brand new. Maybe you’ve signed up for my free Virtual Assistant starter kit, or you’ve been browsing job boards like Belay, Fiverr, or Upwork, but you stopped short of really diving in. You’re curious, but something inside is whispering, “What if I fail?”

I’ve been there.

When I first considered Virtual Assistant work, I wasn’t a new mom looking for something on the side—I was in a job I didn’t want. Every day I felt stuck, craving freedom but afraid of what would happen if I left. Back then, hardly anyone was working from home. The idea felt risky and, honestly, a little too good to be true. Was this even legit? Could I really build a career from my laptop?

And then there were the benefits. Walking away from insurance, paid time off, and the “security” of a traditional job felt terrifying. What if it didn’t work out? What if I failed? Those questions swirled in my head for weeks. But here’s the truth: staying in a job I hated wasn’t safe either. It was draining my joy and limiting my future.

So, I took the leap.

It wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t guaranteed, but it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Today, not only do I run a thriving VA business, but I’ve had to turn down offers because I don’t have the time or capacity for them. The risk turned into freedom. The fear turned into fulfillment.

If you want to know exactly what that first step can look like, check out my post on how to start your Virtual Assistant business from scratch.

The Power of Risk

Every successful woman you admire started with one scary, uncertain step. No one begins at the finish line. They begin at the moment they choose courage over comfort.

I’ve seen countless women invest in themselves, even when it felt impossible financially, and now they’re working from home with steady clients, more time for what matters most, and confidence they didn’t know they had. Was it risky? Absolutely. Was it worth it? Every single time.

And that’s part of why I eventually stepped into coaching. You can read more about why I became a VA coach—but the short version is this: I wanted to help women shortcut the fear and uncertainty I once felt.

Why Now Matters

I know times are tough—prices are up, jobs are disappearing, and the economy feels uncertain. But here’s the truth: there is no guarantee that things will suddenly get better. What is guaranteed is that businesses are still hiring Virtual Assistants. In fact, contract VA roles are growing. It’s more cost-effective for companies to hire remote contractors than traditional employees, and the demand just keeps climbing.

Just this past month, I had to turn down three offers because I don’t have the time to take on new clients. And the job boards? They’re full. The opportunities are real and waiting—you just have to take the step to reach them.

Want to know where to even start looking for opportunities? My blog on four third-party platforms that can help you get started as a Virtual Assistant is a great place to begin.

Invest in Yourself

Yes, there is an investment. Every career path requires one—whether it’s time, training, or money. There’s no “magic job” that hands you success without effort. But I’ve built my courses and services with you in mind, keeping the cost low and the support strong.

With tools like my Resume Revamp service or Virtual Assistant 101, you don’t have to figure it out alone. You’ll learn what you need to land jobs confidently—whether you want a few hours of side income before or after your full-time work, or you’re planning to transition into a full VA career like I did.

What’s Your “Why”?

Why did VA work first catch your attention? Was it…

  • Wanting more time at home with your kids?
  • Longing to leave the corporate grind?
  • Needing extra income to ease financial stress?
  • Craving something that makes you feel successful again?

Your “why” matters. It’s your fuel for the hard days, your anchor when the fear creeps in, and your vision for the life you can create.

Don’t Let Fear Win

Fear whispers that you’ll fail. Courage reminds you that you might just fly.

The women who step into this work—who decide that their “why” is stronger than their fear—are the ones building flexible incomes, reshaping their families’ futures, and rediscovering joy in their daily work.

You could be next.

It’s time to be brave. To be courageous. To choose the life you’ve been dreaming of.

Take the step. Your future self will thank you.
