Wedding Gig Essentials

What Every Musician Needs on Hand

Your ultimate checklist for a smooth and stress-free wedding performance

Weddings are some of the most rewarding gigs a musician can play—but they’re also some of the most unpredictable. We’ve played everything from backyard ceremonies to luxury venues, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s this:

Being prepared is everything.

Whether you’re a solo act, duo, or full band, here’s what we always bring to ensure a successful wedding performance—plus a few Amazon favorites we never leave home without.

1. Backup Gear (Because Something Will Go Wrong)

You never know when a cable will die, a mic will cut out, or a stand will collapse mid-toast. We always bring:

  • Extra mic cables
  • Extra instrument cables
  • Backup microphones
  • Batteries (for tuners, pedals, etc.)
  • A spare mic stand

Amazon pick: This collapsible mic stand fits in any gear bag and saves the day more than you’d think.

2. Power Solutions

Many wedding venues (especially outdoor ones) have limited or oddly placed outlets. We pack:

  • Long extension cords (at least 25–50 feet)
  • A surge protector
  • A power strip with USB ports
  • Gaffer tape (to keep cables safe and tidy)

Amazon pick: This heavy-duty extension cord is a must for backyard or barn weddings.

3. Setlists & Schedules

Weddings have a flow, and knowing the timeline is key. We print or load:

  • The full setlist (for ceremony, cocktail hour, reception)
  • Names of special dances (first dance, father/daughter, etc.)
  • Contact info for the planner or coordinator

We also keep notes in the Music Stand app for quick access on stage.

4. In-Ear or Monitor Setup

Good sound is everything. If you’re relying on venue speakers or open-air acoustics, bring:

  • Your own monitor or in-ear setup
  • Small mixer or audio interface
  • A way to adjust volume on the fly

Amazon pick: These budget-friendly in-ear monitors changed the game for us.

5. Comfort & Extras

It’s a long day—prepare for anything. Our extras include:

  • Folding stools or chairs (some venues don’t provide them)
  • Water bottles and light snacks
  • Printed signs (“Live Music,” “Request a Song”)
  • A tip jar (if allowed)

Bonus tip: We also pack a small first aid kit, just in case. You’d be surprised.

Final Thoughts

Weddings can be magical, chaotic, and full of unexpected twists. Showing up fully equipped means you can focus on what you do best—creating an unforgettable experience for the couple and their guests.
